At the reunion we talked about supporting a project or projects together as a group. Obviously the projects need to be Lesotho based. I am interested in any ideas anybody would like to throw out to the group.
So, here are the ideas I have so far:
Idea #1, Friends of Lesotho Memorial fund in memory of Carole Kimball. This is taken from their website friendsoflesotho.org/donate:
"In memory and appreciation of their service, Friends of Lesotho has established memorial scholarships for those deceased Peace Corps Volunteers and Staff who served in Lesotho. The scholarships will be awarded through our Tuition Assistance Program to Basotho students.
In addition Friends of Lesotho has donated a plaque listing the names of the deceased volunteers and staff members with their years of service in Lesotho. The plaque is displayed in the Peace Corps office in Maseru and updated with your contribution.
Making a Memorial Contribution
Please fill out the Donor Form and the Memorial Information sheet which follows and send the forms to Friends of Lesotho. If you prefer to send donations on-line, go to http://www.justgive.org and fill in the Search Box with Friends of Lesotho. You are given the opportunity to specify this is as a Memorial Gift [everybody specify Carole]. Please also send FOL the Memorial Information attached to this document."
Idea #2, from Sherry Hellenkamp, a Fun Run in Tacoma:
"In 2007, Shay Glackin-Coley - then ten years old - began searching for a way to raise funds for a charitable cause. His first inclination was to find employment, which would enable him to donate his paychecks.
However, given the lack of good paying jobs for ten year olds, and his love of running, he decided to organize a fund raising run instead. Shay brought his ideas to the Tacoma Lesotho Connection, where his energy and enthusiasm founded the run and continue to touch lives here and in Lesotho.
Now in its second year, "Booking It" sends all proceeds towards scholarships for elementary and secondary students in Lesotho, Africa. All funds go directly to student needs; no overhead or administrative costs are deducted. For more information please go to: http://www.snjm.org/lesotho"
